The packaging industry in Africa is experiencing a period of strong growth, driven by several factors such as population growth, urbanization, as well as the growth of the packaged goods sector.
This case study will address the needs of Carrinho Industria, eager to grow rapidly in the food sector, the reasons that led it to choose SIPA as a strategic partner for PET packaging, the machines and technologies used, and the goals achieved.
About Carrinho Industria
Carrinho Industria was founded as a family business in Angola. Now the company oversees all stages of the processing chain of cereals and numerous other products in the food sector, such as pasta, biscuits, flour and margarine, managing every operation from raw material to distribution.
Its mission is to create an ecosystem that favors national production, embracing a strong sense of social responsibility and positioning itself as an engine for nutritional self-sufficiency in the African country.
The Carrinho Industria industrial complex, with its 17 factories, is among the most complete in the world, allowing the processing of various cereals and the refining of vegetable oil, producing more than 20 consumer goods.
The initial needs of the company
Carrinho Industria, eager to grow further, aimed to create a vertically integrated organizational structure for food production in Angola.
This step included systems capable of producing PET preforms till the palletization of the final containers, in order to improve the overall production capacity of the company.
Why SIPA
The choice fell on SIPA for its solidity on the world market with regard to technologies for the production, filling and packaging of PET containers, from the preform to the final product, with a consolidated experience in the Food sector.
The African company was convinced by the complete range of solutions proposed by SIPA and the ability to fully support Carrinho Industria's growth vision for the implementation of its production capacity.
The technological solutions provided by SIPA
As a first step, SIPA has developed a complete line dedicated to the bottling of edible oil. The line starts with a 10-cavity XTRA rotary blow molding machine, which feeds a Flextronic W precision weight filler, equipped with 50 filling heads.

The bottles, once capped and labeled, are transferred to the shrink wrapper and then to the SIPA Active Layer palletizer, operating at a speed of 25,000 bottles per hour for one-liter formats.
In parallel, a SIPA XFORM 350 preform production system equipped with three moulds – two of which with 96-cavity to support the 25,000 b/h line and an additional 48-cavity mould – was integrated to produce preforms for three- and five-litre bottles.
For bottle stretch-blowmolding, Carrinho Industria has chosen an SFL Dynamic 3H linear blower equipped with three blowing cavities, connected with a BIG FILL W 12/6 filler for filling the bottles produced.
The scope of delivery also included a labeller, a handle applicator and a SIPA PTF 1 palletizer. As a turnkey system supplier, SIPA also supplied the auxiliaries and piping for the line.
The line is highly automated, with a supervision system that ensures continuous monitoring and provides production reports.

The results achieved thanks to the partnership
Thanks to these choices and the constant support of SIPA, even in the after-sales, Carrinho Industria has been able to significantly improve production efficiency together with the ability to manage the entire value chain of food production.
The results show a clear increase in the ability to produce high-quality bottles together with a wide range of consumer goods for the African market.
